Baseball fans were not just watching more games nationally this season -- local
games also saw a jump with audiences up 3% compared to 2024, thanks in part to f
ans increasingly able to find in-market streaming options to counteract cord-cut
ting. That comes after games were down 10% locally in 2024, due in part to a lon
g carriage dispute between Comcast and Main Street Sports Group, which controls
the FanDuel-branded RSNs.

But sources tell SBJ that 15 U.S.-based teams saw local gains this season, compa
red to just seven in 2024, which was an unusually low number. Nine teams saw dou
ble-digit percentage upticks this season (nine also saw a double-digit percentag
e declines). The group of nine FanDuel Sports Network teams saw a collective 17%
increase this season with the carriage dispute resolved, bouncing back from a 2
1% slide last season, sources noted. “There could be scuttlebutt in our ecosyst
em of how we talk about what’s going on in the RSN world, but fans have no conc
ern or care,” said Playfly Sports CEO Craig Sloan. “They want to get access to
their games, and FanDuel [Sports Network] is providing them multiple ways to do
that.”

the market for games since 2016.

a few years). But games stayed on in the Bay Area, and TV viewers there were no
t that interested, with A’s telecasts seeing a 62% drop on NBC Sports Bay Area.
